Support the Houston Police Foundation

The private sector has a real stake in the success of the Houston Police Department and the safety of our City.  The Houston Police Foundation serves a vital role - connecting private investment dollars with effective public safety solutions.  The Foundation is engaged in an effort to leverage private resources to fund high priority law enforcement needs.

With your support we can build a safer Houston and a stronger Police Department.

The Houston Police Foundation Second Annual ‘True Blue Gala’ was held October 17, 2009 at the home of Police Foundation Chairman Tilman Fertitta.   The 500 guests were treated to lavish food from the Landry’s Restaurant empire and were invited to participate in several interactive displays which included the Shoot-Don’t Shoot Simulator, the Taser display, and the DWI (BAT) Van.

Chief Harold Hurtt and Hollywood’s G.W. Bailey, who stars in The Closer (and was the captain in the Police Academy movies), oversaw a mock hostage situation in which KTRK-TV’s Wayne Dolcefino (who had ‘intruded’ into the festivities with a ‘cameraman’) and Sunny 99.1’s Dana Tyson were taken hostage by a group called Crustacean Nation. SWAT along with Air Support saved the day when the members of Crustacean Nation finally surrendered amidst a shoot out which concluded with SWAT officers rappelling down the side of the home and saving Dana Tyson then the ‘bad guys’ gave Wayne Dolcefino back to the crowd. Many laughs were had and the Bomb Squad livened up the show and capped off the event with a spectacular display of pyrotechnics.

Wounded officers Lloyd Morrison and Rick Salter were honored at the event and many patrons showed their respect by taking pictures with the wounded officers and saying ‘Thank you.’   The event, which raised almost $400,000 for Houston Police Department projects, was a great opportunity for the guest to interact with the officers and to gain a better understanding of the department.
